Using Social Networking To Increase Your Affiliate Sales

Using Social Networking To Increase Your Affiliate Sales

Social networking sites are not just for teenagers anymore. In fact, social networking sites have evolved into something different altogether than what they once were. Today, social networking sites span the spectrum of demographic groups. While teenagers are still more apt in using them than older people, there are now niche social networking sites, which target people who all share some common interest, such as mountaineering or dating.

Now, in addition to teenagers and adults, social networks are increasingly being used by business groups. Many businesses are now infiltrating social networks to advertise in some subtle manner and then replicate their message through systems that are already available within the social network. Let us have a look at a few.

Facebook

The most prominent social network is Facebook which boasts a membership base of 400 hundred million. If the affiliate product you are selling has a broad appeal, you may want to use Facebook to market your affiliate product, as you will be able to reach the largest audience quickly.

Now, there are a number of different ways in which you can market your affiliate product through Facebook. One way is to setup a profile and then begin adding friends to your list on a daily basis. Be careful here, because if you add friends too quickly you will get blocked or even banned, so do not add more than 25 friends per day. Depending on your goals, you may want to add a personal profile for yourself and then talk about your business and product on your page. Alternatively you may want to simply create a profile for your business and use that to market your affiliate product. Once you have had some experience marketing to the Facebook audience, you may want to consider looking at other social networking sites such as My Space and Friendster.

Twitter

Twitter allows you to micro blog by sending short text messages of up to 140 characters in length. These are called “tweets” and can be sent to your friends and followers. This short format is the defining characteristic of the Twitter service. You can send your messages to include a link to your web site or affiliate product. There are also certain software programs that can be used to automatically add followers to increase your exposure.

Squidoo

Another place you will definitely want to look at is Squidoo. Unlike Facebook, My Space, Friendster, and other traditional social networking sites, Squidoo allows members to create a “lens”, instead of a “profile”. So, rather than writing about yourself, you can actually just write about products and services you are promoting.

Digg

Another prominent social networking site you will want to explore is Digg. It is distinctly different from Squidoo. Rather than allowing you to directly network with people or to directly sell affiliate products, it allows you to submit blog posts and vote on them. Once a post is submitted, it appears on a list in the category you selected. From there, it will either fall in ranking or rise in ranking depending on how people vote.

If you are having a hard time getting exposure, but you are a good writer or have good graphic design skills then this is your chance to shine. All you have to do is put together a high quality blog about your particular affiliate product topic. You can then tag it and ping it to Digg. If people like your entry, they will vote on it and keep you near the top. If you use graphics, a movie, or charts, you can expect more people to view and vote on your particular blog entry. Try to make your post as original as possible if you want to get recognised.

Whichever sites you decide to use, keep the following in mind:-

You can use social networks in a number of different ways. For instance, you could concentrate on developing a network of people who share a common interest and could potentially be interested in your specific affiliate product. Conversely, you could simply take some of your best writing on a particular topic you are covering and try to get it recognised on places like Digg, but without building any network whatsoever.

Last, you can use social networks such as Squidoo to sell affiliate products by developing high quality content and then inserting affiliate links. Whatever you do, make sure you select the right network for your particular affiliate products.

Your Business Needs A Mobile Marketing Strategy

Your Business Needs A Mobile Marketing Strategy

The facts are clear that mobile smartphones have changed the way people go about their lives. Everyday there are huge advancements in social networking and in wireless mobile marketing that can be leveraged for your business quickly, easily, and very affordably. It is vital to the success of your business to integrate a mobile marketing strategy into your advertising and promotional efforts right away.   Here is a list of the top 10 things you can do immediately to get your business activated on the mobile web so that consumers can find your product, service, or location faster.

   1.  To develop a mobile strategy for your business first understand that mobile marketing is a very important part of how your business can market immediately and in the future.  As more people start to use their mobile phones to its fullest potential, mobile marketing growth rates will increase dramatically.

  2.  Understand that nearly half of all searches are now taking place on a mobile device. This means that people are actively using their mobile phones to seek out information and offers that fit their lifestyle. Most smartphone users have their device with them 18 hours a day, and that most of them don’t perceive mobile ads as “advertising” or as intrusive. Consumers actually like searching for specific offers and have demonstrated a high rate of acceptance and redemption of mobile offers (i.e. mobile coupons).

  3.  MobileCoupons.com offers a FREE account to merchants to start creating coupons and offering them to consumers both on-line and on their mobile phones. The service is absolutely FREE to consumers so they can search, geo-locate, and navigate to your coupon deals. Consumers can use their computers to print those same mobile coupons, or they can be found, shared, and stored on a mobile phone to be presented for redemption at your business. MobileCoupons is created for merchants to be easy, immediate, affordable and trackable! Mobile Coupons redemption rates are 10x greater than print.

  4.  If you have a website already, that is great! But it is time to upgrade and/or integrate a mobile friendly website that is easily found on the mobile web, viewed, and offers  full navigation screen on a mobile device. This does not have to be a huge or labor intensive task. A fully functional basic mobile site can be created for 0 to 00 or more (depending on how in-depth and interactive you want it to be). Most mobile sites can be constructed in a few days, if all of the content and information is provided and in order.

5.  A solid mobile strategy will include several different ways of connecting with consumers through their mobile devices. SMS/MMS or Text messaging, Bluetooth or Proximity Marketing, and Mobile Coupons and Geo-Locating are each very different and offer strengths that if used properly will cover your basis in the mobile ecosystem.

 6.  Set up Facebook and Twitter accounts for your business. Recently, Facebook took over Googles #1 spot and became the “most visited” website in the US. Facebook has 400 millions users and still growing rapidly. Twitter is on a course to have a billion users by the end of 2010.  These social media sites are free and relatively painless to set up, that will get your business alot of exposure. If you are not able to update your account on a regular basis, try to assign the task to someone else (as updating is a very important part of keeping your presence current). People are recommending local businesses and services to their friends and families at an increasing rate. Word of mouth… Internet style!

 7.  Create a YouTube account for your business. Start uploading video content about you, your products, and your services. Even a handheld video of your location or a 15-20 second commercial can get you tons of impressions. People love watching video on their computers and on their mobile phones. It is a great way for people to preview your offerings and services.

 8.   If you are doing any type of print advertising, billboards or event marketing make sure you included your mobile website address and place logos (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube) for any of the social media(s) you have accounts with. Consumers like to know as much about you and your business as possible, so let them know how to find and hear more about you.

 9.  Get “Geo-focused” and understand there is a mobile Ecosystem around your customers. Smartphones are smart because of how they interact with an environment and help people find goods, services, and specific locations. Each smartphone is a little GPS (Global Positioning System) and contains software that can gather information, process it, and deliver it to the user in a meaningful way. When planning your mobile marketing efforts, think about proximity and tie-in partnerships that can deliver the types of customers that you want.  Location Based, Geo-Navigating, Geo-Targeting, Proximity Marketing are the key terms you’ll need to be familiar with so you can integrate your mobile strategy and connect with customers.

 10.  Keep your finger on the pulse of mobile marketing. There are several websites and blogs that have really great and current information about every aspect of mobile marketing. MobileMarketingWatch is a great resource and 5thWallMedia.com has information and a free smartphone marketing report.

Monitoring Employees’ Social Network Activity

Monitoring Employees’ Social Network Activity

With the growing importance of social media activity to a brand’s online reputation, it is becoming more and more imperative, especially for larger businesses, to watch what your employees are doing on Twitter, Facebook, and other channels of public communication. Of course, this is not to suggest that you should spy on your employees, or watch their private correspondence – all that needs be watched are those communications that are publicly available, as these are the messages that can be syndicated in real-time search and find their way out into the world in a way that can damage your brand.

Social media has become such an integral part of many people’s daily lives that they hardly even think about what they’re posting. Status updates complaining about something a boss did, tweets about a new product launch that hasn’t yet been announced, or venting about a product that isn’t working and is running behind schedule can all cause serious damage to your brand, with no malicious intent on the part of your employees.

Having a Social Networking Agreement for your employees to sign is a good first step to managing your messaging. In it, spell out exactly what is and is not acceptable behavior in terms of discussing their work and your brand. If there are any gray areas, delineate these carefully, and set aside someone in your organization who employees can contact to check with to make sure something is appropriate. This simple step can help employees be more conscious of how they discuss their work online, and can save you a lot of grief down the line.

To protect yourself more carefully, it’s a good idea to monitor major streams of communication, such as Facebook updates and Twitter, for your brand or phrases related to your brand. This is a good idea generally, to see the buzz that’s out there, but it will also catch comments employees might make, which you can more directly deal with. Many businesses set up special RSS feeds to track their employees’ public updates, so that they can scan them throughout the day and make sure nothing critical is getting out, or hire specialized reputation monitoring professionals to insure that they know who and what is being said about their brand.

Integrated software, such as Social Sentry, will automate the process of following employees and tracking their updates for anything relating to your brand. This helps filter through the white noise, and makes it less of a direct invasion of your employee privacy, only notifying you when a status update has raised a flag according to pre-determined conditions. In addition to statements directly about your brand, many businesses also find it useful to monitor their public employees, to ensure that their behavior in social networks reflect well on their business. The last thing a good brand needs is for a VP of marketing to release a series of drunken ramblings on Twitter days before meeting with an important client. By taking a proactive approach in screening your employees’ activity, you put yourself in a position to intervene quickly and mitigate any damage that might be done by casual tweets or updates.

Your CV – First Impressions Count

Your CV – First Impressions Count

Until you actually meet your potential new employers, the only thing they can base you on is your paperwork.

Therefore the quality of your CV is crucial. Unless you are a networking wizard they are THE essential tools in your job search. They should be treated like any marketing document, a CV should help you sell yourself and they should be directed at their audience.

Preparation:
Remember proper preparation prevents piss poor performance, so get out your pad of paper and brainstorm your skills, competencies, qualifications and experience. Highlight what your unique selling points and strengths are whilst noting down what you have achieved.

When applying to a specific job advertisement, it pays to review what key words and tasks were used in the advertisement and if possible use these words and similar phrases in your CV.

Audience
The look of your CV should reflect the job that you are applying for. A creative role would benefit from a more creative CV.

Whilst the following article by Smashing Magazine was written with Web Designers in mind, in shows how a creative CV can give the first impression of your style of work. As they mention “the résumé is the first portfolio piece that potential employers see, and if they’re not impressed, chances are they won’t look at the rest of your portfolio”.

That being said if the job doesn’t warrant fancy pictures, or vector graphics, it’s not worth including.

Content
Regardless of whether it’s a creative CV or not, content is king, the aim of it is to be read, to be liked and grab the readers attention enough for them to arrange an interview with you.

Include enough information to stimulate interest, but not so much that you bore the reader. Remember you need something to elaborate on in your interview!
By providing bite size pieces of information you stand a better chance of having your CV read.
Three pages should be the absolute maximum. Two is great. keeping it to one page is even better!
Every word must contribute to the overall message – don’t waffle, keep it brief and ensure that the content is relevant to the job you are applying for.

Lay out
Remember – a CV that is awkward to read is often put aside and forgotten. Don’t try and be too clever, following a logical layout is very important.

First things first
Put your name (nice and bold) at the top, followed by your home address, phone number and email. Other things to consider include a link to your LinkedIn page and Twitter.

However please think about the content that’s on these sites, if you barely use LinkedIn with only a few connections and not filled your details in any great detail then don’t bother. Same for Twitter, if you use it mostly for banter with your mates then it’s not going to do you any favours however if you are actively involved with discussions which your future employers would be impressed with then stick it on.

One thing to remember when thinking about content is what harm could it do? Unless you are going for a job as a social marketeer, not having a Twitter link probabley isnt going to do any harm however if you stick it on there and they see your latest Tweet about how drunk you got at the weekend and slept in the middle of a roundabout…it might have a negative effect (it might be the clincher in other organisations!!).

Soundbite
Next should be a brief introduction which is pretty much limited to who you are, what you currently do and what you want to do in the future. This could be as short as:

Motivated CAD Technician with 4 years’ experience working for a market leading Architect looking for a CAD Manager’s position.

Keep it simple and short, it should reflect the key skills and experiences required for in the job description. It’s very easy to drag this introduction out and duplicate other sections further down but believe me this is all a recruiter wants to see.

Education vs Employment
What’s next; education or employment? In most cases I would prefer employment, the only exception is if you have little work experience, e.g. recent school leaver, university graduate or only two years’ work experience. If this is the case put your education first.

Do:

Include achievements and quantify them in sales, financial or production terms.
Present your employment history in reverse chronological order, (i.e. last job first).
Include other achievements that were not part of your regular tasks.

If you are slightly older and have had more jobs, focus on the most recent and the most significant. The roles you had 20 years ago are less likely to make an impression, you could list these. The amount of elaboration could depend on how many pages you have written. If it’s the difference between 2 pages and going onto a third, cut it down to the minimum.

Other bits of information
Include a list of key skills, specialist software pages used, any languages, training courses undertaken or professional memberships.

List your hobbies and interests in no more than three lines, and only if they are relevant to the position in question. If you know that the company has a football team, make sure you say you enjoy playing (don’t lie though), small details like these can sometimes be the difference. Any voluntary or charity work or external posts you hold are worth including.

Do not feel you have to provide referees on your CV, these can be provided at a later date.

And finally…
Double check your work, get someone else to check your spelling and grammar. Does the content grab them? Is it easy to follow? Careless mistakes can be a real turn off.

Combining Social Networking With Efficiency For Better Results

Combining Social Networking With Efficiency For Better Results

You have decided to start your own website and join the fray, so to speak. It follows that you also want a cut of the cake when it comes to revenue sharing. Hence, you are interested in social networking. But for you to become one of the success stories on the net, you have to learn all about social networking and how to avoid the pitfalls of being ruled by the net. Time management, efficiency and the important things to know about social networking can make you enjoy better results. This will make your web experience more interesting, liberating and fun.

To help you manage time in your social media sites, here are some tips:

Social Networking Client program

Social networking client program is usually a feature of most social networking sites. This can be additional sites or software free to be downloaded in order to make your networking endeavors easier. Tweetdeck for Twitter is a perfect example. It simplifies your networking by managing all the messages for you or that mentions your name in any Twitter conversation. By being able to respond to conversations directly involving you, more time is saved on the net.

Networkedblog is one of the clients and partners of Face Book that makes it possible for your blog to be connected to Face Book. Likewise, LinkedIn has partners and clients that allow uploading and sharing of slide shows and your PowerPoint presentations using SlideShare. On the other hand, Squidoo can connect to Face Book, LinkedIn, YouTube and others because of its partnering clients.

Automated System

You can now connect your page in Facebook, Linkedin to Twitter or other sites. This makes everything automated so you only need to post an entry in at most two sites but this will appear automatically in sites that you have this automated setup. Nonetheless, you have to be sure about automating your site because you wouldn’t like to post something personal in your professional profiles. Different sites have different audiences like Face Book being more personal, LinkedIn as professional while other sites like Google Reads and Squidoo are more into specific audience like your new ebook reading audience.

Being In Control

Respond only to conversations asking for a reply, additional information, guidance or more details. You don’t have to e-mail or reply to everyone who posts responses or thank you notes. And try to make a schedule of replying to posts for a few minutes twice a week. Make sure to segregate your mails to make replying easier for you.

Practice Common Courtesy

The worst turnoff online is when someone who is practically a stranger making a sales pitch. It is common courtesy online or offline (person to person) to establish connections, friendship and relationship based on trust and credibility before doing any selling. Committing this blunder will cost you time, money, connections and followers.

Manage Your Time

Set aside a certain period of time like 30 to 120 minutes online for social networking. Don’t get caught up chatting, conversing or checking a new site. Be disciplined, set a timer and stop when time is up.

You don’t have to get sucked into social networking or your internet stuff. Have a system when working online so you can maximize your time. Learn to be efficient. And make the net work for you. With time management and efficiency when doing social networking, you can expect better results.

Fact or Fiction? Most Customers Seek Out Deals, Discounts and Coupons Online

Fact or Fiction? Most Customers Seek Out Deals, Discounts and Coupons Online

By Charles Nicholls, Founder and CSO of SeeWhy, Inc.

‘Have we conditioned most customers to the point that they expect discounts and won’t buy without one?’

This is a great question, and it’s worth considering in more depth. Recent research shows that coupon redemption is at an all time high, and at the same time, Ben Bernanke warns that the economic recovery is fragile and taxes will inevitably have to rise. It’s no wonder that customers are nervous and cautious.

This is evidenced in a recent Forrester Research report that found that some 136 million people abandoned shopping carts in the U.S. last year, a full 88 percent of the online shopping population. The number one reason why people abandon shopping carts is price, specifically the cost of shipping and handling (44 percent), rapidly followed by ‘Not yet ready to buy’ (41 percent) and ‘Looking for a better deal’ (27 percent).

These numbers would suggest that many, but not all, customers are deal hungry—scouring the internet for the best price, free shipping offers and voucher codes.

So, it was with some interest that I read ExactTarget’s latest installment in their Subscribers, Friends and Followers series. Their most recent research paper, ‘The Social Profile,’ looks at the different online personalities and identifies 12 specific personas:

Inner circle:             47% of online consumers

Inner Circle consumers are interested in maintaining and deepening existing relationships with family and close friends, not necessarily developing new online relationships.

Cautious:                33% of online consumers

Very selective about with whom they communicate and the types of information they’re willing to share online.

Info seeker:            33% of online consumers

Info Seekers go online to find and consume information. They aren’t interested in creating new content or in commenting on the experiences of others, though they do seek out others’ opinions.

Enthusiast:              32% of online consumers

When Enthusiasts go online, they’re motivated by offline interests and hobbies.

Deal seeker:           30% of online consumers

Deal Seekers have a huge appetite for promotional content across all online channels. They see email, Facebook and Twitter as opportunities to obtain exclusive deals, freebies, discounts, coupons, and sale notifications.

Shopper:                24% of online consumers

As their name suggests, Shoppers are most interested in the topic of shopping when they’re interacting online. But their interests aren’t limited to online transactions—they spend a lot of time researching and preparing for in-store shopping trips at their favorite local stores. In contrast to their Deal Seeker counterparts, Shoppers tend to be more focused on quality, as opposed to savings, though both are important to these consumers.

News junkie:          21% of online consumers

Consumers who are motivated by the quest for real-time breaking news and current events. News Junkies use the internet as either their primary source of information for news-related content or as a secondary source to supplement the information they get on cable news networks. These consumers are active social media contributors, especially when it comes to posting articles on sites, commenting on news stories, and submitting ratings and reviews to retailer websites.

Gamer:                   19% of online consumers

Gamers are motivated by the latest and greatest in gaming software, and can be split into two sub categories—Casual vs. Serious.

Social butterfly:       13% of online consumers

Making and maintaining a lot of online friendships is a Social Butterfly’s #1 priority. And to do so, they use a wide variety of social media tools. Social Butterflies use Facebook to maintain their social lives, and their Friends are personal contacts, not work colleagues. In addition to becoming Fans of brands on Facebook, these consumers are also interested in promotions and sale notifications across email, Facebook and Twitter.

10.  Business first:          8% of online consumers

Business First Consumers use the internet for business purposes, keeping up with the latest trends, communicating with business contacts, and making new connections through sites like LinkedIn. In short, they’re actively engaged in promoting their companies and personal careers online.

11.  Megaphone:           7% of online consumers

Megaphones want to connect, educate, and share resources and information online with others. These consumers clearly fall into the “influencer” category—meaning they can impact a brand’s bottom line—but Megaphones represent an especially elite group that takes their online interactions very seriously.

12.  Open book:            6% of online consumers

Open Books are uninhibited consumers who freely express their likes, dislikes, experiences and opinions with the online world.

What’s interesting about these profiles is that only 30 percent are Deal Seekers. It’s very easy to forget that the deal-focused consumer is in fact a minority. The ExactTarget research also points at Shoppers (24 percent) and Social Butterflies (13 percent) as being interested in promotions, and connecting with brands by both social networks and by becoming email subscribers. But these consumers are not driven towards deal-seeking as their primary motivation online, rather they are focused on shopping research and the social aspects of shopping, respectively.

These online personas are interesting reminders to us to not treat website visitors as a homogeneous mass—it’s all too easy when we use language like Unique Visitors, Page Views and the like as part of our daily web analytics language.

Unfortunately, these types of online personas cannot easily be used to personalize our online marketing strategies but do contribute to our understanding of all the different types of online consumers.

This is echoed in some of the remarketing campaigns that our customers run (see Q&As with Rockler and Eat N’ Park). Some of the most successful abandoned shopping cart recovery email programs that SeeWhy powers—generating millions of dollars each year for the brands—do so with any form of promotion.

How to Plan a Charity Walk or Run

Author admin    Category Twitter Software     Tags , ,

How to Plan a Charity Walk or Run

Charity events in any form are always popular, but increasingly, many organisations are choosing to recruit their fundraisers through more interactive events such as walks and runs. A charity walk or run is not only a healthy way for your participants to raise money for a good cause, but also a very visible way of publicising your charitable cause to the community.

If a charity run or walk seems like a good fit for your organisation, here is an overview of some things you may want to keep in mind when planning the event.

THE PLANNING PHASE

Choosing a Route

When planning a mass participation event such as a walk or run it is important that you first take some time to carefully consider the route your participants will be following. Your choice of route will play a central roll in other decisions you make concerning resources, staff size, security, transportation, volunteers, signage, and ultimately the satisfaction of your participants.

When mapping out the course, first determine the type of event you would like to hold. Most fundraising events try to be as inclusive as possible because, simply put, more fundraisers translates into more donations for your cause! If your goal is to be as inclusive as possible that means you want people of all ages and physical abilities to be able to participate in your event. That said, when choosing your route it is a good idea to not only look at a map but get out there and actually walk the course yourself. When surveying the road, pay attention to elevation gain, traffic, road conditions, and any other factors that could potentially make participating in your event strenuous for the less physically able. You may also benefit from contacting a local running or walking club for suggestions of routes that may fit your participant’s ability levels. Some common route distances for charity events are 5k, 10k, Half Marathon and Marathon.

Saftey

Participant safety is something to strongly consider when mapping out your route. How much traffic travels along your route? Are there adequate pedestrian lanes that will keep your participants a safe distance from the traffic? Does your route require that your participants cross any especially busy streets? Is any stretch of your route undergoing construction? Will the course be open to the public making it easy for non-registered people to come in contact with your participants? Asking yourself these questions will help you chart your course around any potential hazards and allow your participants to have a fun, care-free experience on event day.

Transportation

When choosing the location of your route, also keep participant and spectator access to transportation in mind. If you want crowds of spectators to turn out and easy access to the event for your participants, make sure that the course is in close proximity to public transportation and parking for those who have automobiles. If your event is not in a metropolitan area, it may be a good idea to hire busses and choose some meet up locations where people can catch a ride to the event site.

Resources and Staff

The number of participants and spectators you expect on event day as well as length of course are the two main factors that will determine the size of your volunteer staff and resources needed. Here is a list of items commonly used by event walking and running events:

Two way radios
Rope, tape and cones for course marking
Signage for start and finish areas
Signage for services and support areas
Portable toilets
Trash cans
Food
Water
Tents
Tables
Stage for awards ceremony
PA system
Generator

Looking at your course map, you will be able to strategically position your water stops, trash cans, portable toilets, concessions stands and so on. When placing these resources, keep in mind that many people will want to gather around in the finish/celebration area after the event so you may need additional resources in that area. When planning for food and water for your participants, you may want to ask a local market to sponsor the event in the way of donated oranges, bananas and water that you can position along the course. For your spectator concession stands, you will need to determine what types of food you will sell and if you will need to prepare or cook food on site. There are many companies that you can hire to staff and prepare food at your concession stands or you could use your volunteers. In either case you should check to see if you need a special permit to sell or prepare food for the public.

Legalities of a Charity Walk or Run

Speaking of special permits, there are several legalities to consider when planning a charity walk or run. Now that you have chosen your route, have you looked to see if you need permission to use this planned route? You may need to speak with the local council or the person who owns the land. Have you checked to make sure there are no other events planned on your route come event day? Have you obtained liability insurance for your event? Ideally, your insurance should cover any medical problems that occur during the event as well as damage to the land and surrounding property. With the size of event you are expecting, are you required to schedule police presence or request road closures? Do you have permission from the organisation you are raising money for to use their logo and name?

Considering every city, town, or district have their own set of regulations, how you address them will depend on local law and requirements. What we highlighted above are only some of the larger items you should investigate. We would suggest contacting your local council for more information.

FINDING PARTICIPANTS

Marketing

Now that you picked an event location and have all of the necessary approvals and permits, its time to start spreading the word! Traditional event marketing consists of mail, tv, radio, newspaper advertisements and signs posted up about town. These methods can be effective, reach large audiences, and should be looked into but they can come at a high cost. Don’t let that get you down though – the internet has spawned many highly targeted, low-cost, and sometimes free marketing channels that are ideal for creating a buzz about your charity event. Here is a list of some web marketing options that you may want to consider:

Build a website – This is a must. Nowadays, any successful event has an official website where they can direct the public, media and interested sponsors for more information.

Facebook, Twitter, Social Media – There are countless online communities and fan pages out there that are filled with people passionate about the same cause you are raising money for. Get involved with these people and immerse yourself in the online conversation. Build a Facebook Fan Page or Twitter page for your event, envite your new online friends and encourage them to recruit their friends to get involved for the cause.

Paid Search Advertising – Google and other search engines allow you to bid on keyword phrases and place an ad at the top of their search results. Try bidding on keywords such as “London charity events” or “London fundraising run”. Create compelling ad copy and entice the user to click through to your official event website for more information.

Submit Your Event to an Online Events Calendar – There are many websites that will give you a free event listing on their online calendar. Submit your event profile to as many of these as possible and make sure to include a link back to your website in the description.

Email Advertising – Does your organisation already have a list of members who subscribe to your monthly newsletter or email announcements? Send your contact list an attractive HTML email with information about your event and a link to your. Make sure to include “share” buttons in your emails to make it easy for the recipient to pass it on to a friend. Also, on your website, Facebook page and Twitter page, include a feature where the visitor can join your mailing list.

Participant Registration

Something important to consider from the start of the planning phase is how you will collect contact information, entry fees, and fundraising commitments from people who want to participate. Until recently, most events collected participant data and entry fees in person in the event office with a paper registration form. To streamline the staff workload that comes along with paper-based registration, you may want to find a technology provider that specialises in event management software and online event registration. An integrated online event management system will allow you to build a custom online registration form, link to that form from your website, and collect your participant contact data online. We would suggest that the technology you choose include a merchant gateway integrated with the registration form so that you can seamlessly and securely collect payment online during the registration process. Depending on your technology provider, the data collected on an online registration form should be captured and stored in a database that you can log into, manage the data, run reports, email participants and process cancellation refunds if needed.

Examples of questions that could be included on a charity walk registration form are:

Name
Address
Email
Phone
Age
Gender
Emergency Contact
Shirt size (if you are offering a free shirt with the entry fee)
How did you hear of this event?
Number of times you have participated in this event
Team Name (if you are offering team fundraising)
What is your fundraising goal?
What distance will you walk?
Will you be attending the pre-event celebration dinner?

If you hope to grow the size of your email database, it is very important that you make the Email question compulsory so that every online registration has an email address associated with it in your database. You will be able to use this email to send out reminder emails about changes to the event schedule or important notices about fundraising. Any fully integrated online event management system will also need the email address to send out an automatic confirmation email letting the registrant know that their payment has been accepted and spot saved for event admission.

Fundraising Tools

Some more advanced event management systems include an online fundraising platform that you can integrate with your online registration form. What’s great about this is that every person who registers online will automatically have an online fundraising website created for them. The fundraiser can customise their website, ad images, set a fundraising goal, blog about their progress and training for the event, and communicate with their donors. The donor can visit the fundraising site and make an online donation with their credit card at which point the donation amount is added to the fundraisers goal total and money is sent to the charitable organisation. Many organisations are moving their fundraising efforts completely online because the general consensus is that people are likely to donate more if they are able to do it online from the comfort of their own home.

Communication up until event day

The key to a successful event is to steadily build the registrant’s excitement and anticipation from the day they register all the way up until they arrive on event day. Participants that register months prior to the event may loose interest or slow down their fundraising efforts if they are not engaged and encouraged on a regular basis. This is where collecting your registrations online will be very useful. Since you have a database of registrants including their email address, you will be able to send out reminder emails and keep the communication going up until the event. Some content ideas for a weekly newsletter could be:

Updates and special announcements of developments to the event schedule or added entertainment
Fundraising Tips
News and articles from the organisation your event will be raising money for
A training plan for those getting in shape for the event
Special contests for the post-event awards ceremony
Free prizes and incentives for those participants that recruit friends to join the cause

You should also send one final email to your registrants 2-3 days before the event including:

Event start time
Instructions on how and where to check in upon arrival
Schedule of events
Reminder to bring extra money if they want to buy merchandise or food at the celebration party
Summary of prizes that will be awarded to the top fundraisers
The cost of late registration if anyone wants to bring a friend to the event
Weather forecast so that people dress appropriately
List of hotels in the area for anyone who plans to stay the night

AFTER THE EVENT

You and your staff may be exhausted after the long build-up to a successful event but believe it or not, you should already be thinking about next year’s event! Considering everyone had a great time, send out a follow-up email and offer your registrants a discounted rate for next year’s event if they register for it now. Or offer them a “returning participant” coupon that they can use when you activate next year’s online registration form. Another smart thing to do is send an online survey out to your participants and ask them what they liked and what can be improved upon for next year’s event. You can offer your participants a free gift or registration discount if they complete the form for you. This participant feedback is extremely valuable and will help you get a sense of the participant experience on the ground that many event organisers are so often shielded from on event day with so many administrative tasks to juggle.

Gameznet A Bipolar Life

Gameznet A Bipolar Life

This Guy is a Complete Failure

Today I would like to share a story with as many people as possible, it is the story of one man who has just turned 40 years old and is broke and living alone because of debt, failure and a mental health issue known as bipolar. Now despite trying his whole life to earn money and be somebody this guy seems to have always ran into problems and brick walls. Unfortunately he was not diagnosed properly with Bipolar until 2008 so he was not armed with the knowledge or tools to cope with his condition which meant a life swinging between wild manic moments where he felt like he was on top of the world and nobody could knock him off to deep dark depressions where all he wanted to do was leave this earth.

Sometimes these cycles would occur rapidly while other times they might last months or even a year or more. But what it meant was during manic times where ideas where flowing fast and the brain was in overdrive risks would be taken sometimes and impulses would be followed like spending money he didn’t have and then when the depressions set in the reality and aftermath of those risks would drive him into a state of mind where life simply was not worth living and there seemed no point in even getting out of bed. Suicidal thoughts, explosive rage, loss of friends and family turning their backs on him was the result but some how he always managed to pick himself up and have another try at achieving his goals.

Way back in 1997 he decided that he didn’t or couldn’t work for other people and he had a strong desire to make his own way in life by running his own business and so he started on a quest to learn about business and find ways to make money that didnt make him a slave to others. At the time he knew instinctively that computers and this internet thing where going to change the world and he desperately wanted to be a part of it so he started learning everything he could by buying magazines on “work at home” topics and “Computers”

So over time he got into mail order marketing and found a Niche providing floppy disks by mail order with shareware on them. It worked and he had his first taste that he could make money doing what he wanted to do and not being told by someone else what to do. He got his first computer shortly thereafter and the first thing he did was pull it apart and lay all the pieces out on the floor and then put it back together, it worked. He then went out and bought individual pieces, a case, a motherboard etc and put them together, it Worked and without any training, schools or courses he taught himself how to build and repair computers. Next was software issues and trouble shooting, fixing viruses and more…

It wasn’t long before other people noticed that he had a natural instinct with computers and soon people started bringing their computers to him to be fixed and he was only to happy to help but things were still not right, he wanted to do more, he wanted to help others see how wonderful computers are and teach them and so he went on a business course to try and find out how to get a small business started that revolved around teaching people the joys of computers in a fun way.

Despite having no money he went about and created a detailed business plan and went out to government and welfare services to see if there was any assistance available to get a new business started but alas there was no help available and just when he was about to give up he got a call from a government officer that had been handed the business plan and wanted to meet to discuss backing the business plan. So excited and full of energy he accepted an offer of ,000 from this government officer who was retiring to buy into the business and get it going.

Well to cut a long story short the business was launched and things were tough but he fought long and hard putting in hours and getting virtually no sleep for about 2 years to build up the business but disaster struck when just as things were settling in and growth was occurring the “partner” decided it was ready for him to manage and this guy that had done all the work was locked out of the shop.

Again with no money or assets to pay for lawyers he was hung out to dry, there was nothing he could do but watch as his dreams and all the hard work were stolen right out from under him. Destitute and with a new born baby he and his new bride to be were both forced into bankruptcy and now at the age of 40 many years later he has still never fully recovered. Although they tried he and his bride struggled, he desperately wanted to get back into business but had to bring in an income and so went to work for a few ISP’s doing internet support and even helped one setup a LAN gaming centre based on the first business but nothing he did could fulfil the desire to work for himself. One day he remembered that they still had a website domain registered for the business which by now had been changed to another name and so he decided to start learning about HTML and building websites. Now this lead to him eventually generating some income and then working from home building and hosting websites while also doing some PC tech. But after a while it was obvious that the spark wasn’t there, the trust in others was gone and with his unexplained manic/depressive swings he just didn’t want to deal with clients who never seemed to want to part with money when it came time to pay for services and so it was back out into the workforce in order to try and feed clothe and keep a roof over the head of him his girl and their 2 kids. time went on and eventually the bipolar started manifesting in ways that made it impossible for him to predict his own behavior and several violent outbursts at home soon put an end to his relationship but did lead to getting diagnosed with bipolar in 2008.

Now in 2010 he is working part time in a pet shop and living alone, in debt and struggling just to pay the rent but still trying to make money online and not succeeding but he has decided he cant let it go, he has to dig deep and get serious about it.
To really try and put his knowledge and skills into it and not let the bipolar or past life experiences get in the way any longer.

This story I have just told is a true story, its a painful story and unfortunately it is MY STORY…

So now it comes the time to let you know that this is it , this is the way that I am trying to rectify my situation, by coming clean, by being honest, by accepting the past, my condition and not being afraid to ask for help if I need it (and I do need it)

So my first post here is let people know about my story and hopefully find some others who can empathise.

I like to write, I write all the time, its what I do and so at the moment I am researching various topics to write about while also checking out places to submit my articles and posts too which is why I am here at ArticlesBase where I hope to find more information that will help me achieve my goals and learn by doing while also discovering mentors to follow and like minded people to befriend and hopefully finnaly find a way to make some money.

My goals as a writer are to learn and grow and to share what I discover so that I can become a bit of an authority on those topics and maybe even help a few people by sharing some of what I have learn ‘t.
I am also hoping to gain a foothold at sites like ArticlesBase with a view to writing online as a full time career and so I would appreciate any feedback that anyone would like to share with me about my writing and my websites.

In addition to posting articles online I have still got that original website I learnt on and a couple more which I am desperately trying to get going and hopefully earn some income streams from with advertising and affiliate programs but my main focus has to be on writing and expressing myself and providing information that people actually want to and enjoy reading.
My articles and writing will cover a wide variety of topics but one that I am particularly passionate about is learning how to make money online and for this I have created a website at http://gameznet.biz which is purely focused around making money online and is basically a place where I can keep tabs on my own ideas, techniques, tools and services that I am either using or reviewing that can assist me to make money on the internet, I also have a wordpress blog in a sub domain of that site which is blog.gameznet.biz and that is where I will be blogging about what I learn and discover about making money online. I am new to wordpress and still setting the blog up but so far I am very impressed with what can be done with it but it seems the more I learn, the more there is to learn.

My family and friends all think I am crazy to still be trying to work for myself or make money on the internet and wish that I would just get a full time “real job” but In my mind I can see that there is a very valid and real opportunity to work from home on the internet doing something that I love but the task at hand for now is pure learning. The unfortunate thing is that I have spent years trying and so far done nothing but get further and further into debt but still I keep on trying. I know that there are many others out there like me who just want to get out of the rat race and be self reliant and live life for life’s sake and not just be a slave to a boss, the bank and the tax man. So with a lot of determination and effort I will be doing my best to achieve my goals by continuing to write and submitting articles and hopefully building a reputation as an honest, entertaining and interesting writer or I will die trying, fighting until my last breath.

My ultimate goal is to have money and be happy, what is so bad about that anyway?
I just want to have a full time career established, to help others to do the same and to do this I realise that I need to have some help on the way and so I would appreciate any feedback that anyone would like to share with me.

My articles and writing will cover quite a wide variety of topics both personal and professional points of view but one topic that I am particularly passionate about is learning how to make money online. Since I do suffer from a mental health disorder (bipolar) which does get in the way and affect me on a daily basis I have to work harder than others who might have the same goals but with learning (about the disorder) comes understanding and so I guess I will be writing articles about my experiences with bipolar and posting them here and there too. I have a site which was originally a gaming site made with php nuke which I intend to be dedicated to Bipolar and hope that it will help me and others to better understand how to live with and manage it. That site is gameznet.org and I welcome anyone that either has bipolar or knows somebody with bipolar to come and join the site and help me build it into a community.

One of my other passions that I intend to write and blog about is computer games and for that I have a website which was my first ever set up after a failed business of the same name located at gameznet.com.au, at the moment it is just a free online games site but I hope to turn the blog section of it into a game review site and build a community to help me run it. the blog is at blog.gameznet.com.au and I hope that people will take an interest and come to visit my gaming site and get involved but time will tell.

Another website which I just moved from one server to a different host has gotten messed up in the process but basically it is a “Special Interest Portal” with over 30 different special interests ranging from Aliens to Dolphins, Big Boys Toys to Kids Stuff, Web for Women to dinosaurs and dragons plus all the rest. Originally I had this site loaded at my original domain (gameznet.com.au) and at one time I had it in the top 10,000 sites worldwide with many sections coming up in several TOP positions including Number one in Google and other major search engines but then my bipolar kicked in several times and it got all messed up as I started chopping and changing it manically and as a result I lost search engine positions and a lot of traffic, getting google slapped didn’t help either and then I had several server issues and hosting moves that destroyed what I had built up so everything went haywire and I took it in a different direction but it just kind of imploded. Unfortunately at the time when I had it at its peak I did not really know anything about generating incomes with a website and so it was not monitised but rather completely content based but now I know that you can give great content and monitise your site to actually have it generate an income instead of just costing you in time and hosting fees so the new home of the “Gameznet Special Interest Portal” is gameznet.net

I know those sites are all messed up at the moment with many unfinished or missing pages etc but the basic ideas are there and I suppose it is a simple case of doing too much at once but my bipolar means that ideas flow fast and furious and I often find I have 10-20 web pages open and 10 or more so pages open in dreamweaver as I flick from one thing to another. I have often wished I had a team with me to work with, a room full of computers and people who could understand and see where I wanted to go to help me stay focused and on track but alas I am on my own. It’s no way to build successful websites but its what I do, its bad I know but at the same time I just cannot quit, there is a lot of great information and ideas on those sites, that I am sure of and with some help, support and feedback I can get my ideas and goals completed and I am sure that there are others out there that would love to help out, get involved, help me clean up the sites and get them finished and functioning so if your interested or know someone who might be I would love to hear from you :)
All you have to do is investigate the site that interests you most and contact me letting me know you would like to get involved. If we can get any of those sites up and running properly and earning incomes I am more than willing to share any income they generate!

Anyway that’s all I have to say at the moment but I would love to get some feedback from anyone and the best way for me to get that would be either my Gameznet twitter or facebook pages.
to find them just do a search for username: gameznet at those sites or check out the first URL above to find my accounts and then make a friend request or follow me to drop me a line there. facebook is the best one I will see every message but my twitter account gets a tonne of spam. I will however add ANYONE that wants to be friends or followback anyone on twitter that follows me..

One last thing, if anyone is interested in seeing some of the background of Gameznet in more detail, including videos and pictures of the shop and finding out more information on the person behind it check out the following URL http://gameznet.com.au/history/about.html there you will find out where all this “gameznet” stuff came from, get some personal history which even includes a section of my Journal from the period of time when I ran a LAN gaming and Computer Learning Centre called “Gameznet” which went horribly wrong when my business partner decided to do me over and take what I had built for himself. You will also see that everything in this article is true.

At the end of the day some people might see me posting this out as desperate and I guess it is. I may be having another bipolar manic moment right now but I feel better when I am trying than I do when I ignore my passions.

Please feel free to distribute this story, in fact you’d be helping me out :)
