Maintaining A Local Business Blog Isn’t That Difficult

Maintaining a local business blog has proven to be a very effective way to reach your audience. However, many small business owners believe that either they lack the time or ideas to adequately blog about their business.

Hopefully this article will dispel those myths.

First of all it’s important to understand that through consistent local business blogging you can drastically improve your online presence and search engine optimization (SEO). Your attitude about blogging should change when you realize that your efforts can positively affect the amount of traffic going to your site.

In addition, your blog can increase your opportunities to interact with your customers, thus providing more opportunities to share your expert knowledge. Anytime you can get customers interested and involved in what your local business is doing you will increase your chances for additional sales.

So what exactly do you write about anyway? Since you’re an expert in your field you already know more than 98% of the world about your business. But it can still be difficult to put your knowledge into words.

Here are a few tips to get you started:

Use Google Alerts. These are email updates of the latest relevant Google results (web, news, etc.) based on your choice of query or topic. it’s simple- just Google “Google alerts” and type in the topic you would like to receive daily updates about.

Google will then send you updates about what’s going on in your area of interest. These alerts give information such as keeping current on a competitor or your industry and monitoring a developing news story.

It will become easy for you to quickly translate these into blogs that your readers will find timely and interesting.

Write about your company’s history or backstory. Existing and potential customers want to know about you and your business. It can be interesting to them to not only know how you got to where you’re at now, but also how you got started.

Historical topics you can write about include things like: where did you come from; where does your passion come from for your local business; why did you choose your business location; what obstacles did you have to overcome to get where you’re at; etc.

You can blog about a “Day in the Life of…” or your current working situation or environment…” This may be more interesting to your customers than you think since your daily activities are probably unique to theirs. Include comical or unique things that have taken place at your business. Everyone appreciates seeing the human side of others lives.

These are just a few ideas to get you started with your local business blog. You only need to dedicate 15 minutes per day to doing this, and the end results will be well worth it.
